Double Glazing - glass-only replacement?

I've just moved house and in my kitchen I have 2 DG units which have damaged glass (a crack in the door, and a hole in one of the panes in the window).
The door glass is approx 185x60cm, and the window is around 75x75cm square (with a smaller, undamaged opening section above in the frame).
Is it possible to have just the glass unit removed from the frame and replaced, or do I need to get the whole frames replaced (there's no damage to any of the plastic, locks, handles etc).
What would be the (approximate) cost for these do you think?

yes you can just replace the DG glass units. no need to touch the frames.
average cost is about 40 quid each. DIY.
i paid 15 quid for a SG half door glass, last month.Get some gorm.0 -
The last batch of 4/6/4 sealed units I ordered cost £60/m2 supply only, last month - that was based on 3 units each between 0.15m2 and 0.25m2.
Those were for timber frames.
Units for uPVC frames cost more as the aluminium spacer is thicker. You will also need new adhesive strip and the pleasure of trying to get the units out, if you DIY.
Phone your local double glazing company (NOT Everest, Safestyle or Stormseal, because they will multiply the price by TEN)
Also, if any of the glass is toughened (it will be in the door, so that you don't kill yourself when you walk into it - it will have a kitemark in the corner), it will cost more.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Agree with both of the above posts.
At the end of the day the units themselves won't be costly but you'll be paying for the time of the small firm and the person they send over.
Given there's an initial survey, ordering the units & then the work itself I would say the labour will be more costly than the units themselves.
Ormus has the right idea with DIY - very simple procedure.
Be careful to ensure the units match your current units as many are using black warm edge spacers these days to achieve 'A Rated Windows' and lower U Values.
You don't really want a bay with two standard metal spacers and one with a black spacer if that makes sense!
