If the dog is NOT microchipped - anyone would have a problem trying to claim him as their own lost/stolen puppy to be honest. How could they prove it is really their dog?

You can not hand the poor thing over to anyone just turning up and claiming it is their pup after all.

Why people do not microchip their pets?

Vets are not the best people to know about breed of a dog anyway, any dog without papers is asumed to be some kind of a cross, my Zara looks kile a pure GS but has no pedigree papers so would never say she is a pure GS.. just a small point

we have no intention of handing him over to anybody without proof, the local pet shop told us not to say he's a staffie since it would attract the wrong type of people. all he put in window puppy about 8 weeks found please ask for more info inside

You could always check Dog Lost http://www.doglost.co.uk/ to see if he's been reported as lost on there. I've got two dogs and It's great fun, I don't think I could go back to having just one.

We have two, there's a month between them and one is double the size of the other, but the little one is still the boss.

They're insane, but inseprerable (sp). Good on the two of you for looking after him

thanks have checked right back to mid sep and nothing within our area only one dog lost which was a greyhound

Hi there, isnt he just gorgeous. Bless him, how on earth could anyone not be looking for a little darling like that. Has the shop he was outside put up a sign about him. A puppy couldnt walk that far, particular by a main road, without getting hurt or picked up. So he is either local to the shop where he was found or he was dumped.

Two dogs? Ive always had at least 2 or three dogs together. A mix of males and females. Its really down to personality. How does your girl get on with him at the mo? If you do keep him, do please get him neutered asap. You can even get it done free in some inner city areas.

I hope if you decide to keep him you all have a lovely life together

thanks lucys not met him yet not sure how she will take to somebody sharing her box of soft toys, but knowing lucy she will think its another toy but with batteries, going to pop round to next door since she works at a vets and ask her for advice, if i do keep him i will of course get him done.
I know the owner is not going to come forward since as you said how could you dump a dog, i grew up in the area were it was found and even then it was hard to cross the road. I still can't believe nobody even bothered with it , i find it sick that even the workers in the shop turned a blind eye
