Commercial insurance

Options
Hi

I have an insurance policy in my name and using my 2 yrs ncd on a car with direct line. I have just bought a van for my start up biz that wont be trading until sometime next year. I put my name down on the V5 rather than the company's - does that matter when it comes to insurance? Also is it possible to have 2 policies? (It will just be me driving for now but in future I'd want to insure an employee)

On a different matter I read on here that you have to pay £20 for a log book if your is missing - can anyone verify that? Do i need to apply straight away

If anyone has any tips for getting commercial vehicles on the road it would really help me..I'm completely lost and need to tax ASAP as it ran out in sept.

Cheers!!

    For van insurance try https://www.cvd-insurance.co.uk

Or for a more personal service, for the van & your business cover, have a word with Chris Doyle & his team at A Plan Insurance in Luton. 01582 420101

No connection with them, other than being a satisfied customer since starting my driving life far too many years back & actually being their VERRRY first 'commercial & business' customer!

  • Thanks, I am currently getting quotes. was your van in your company's name? Do you know if I can insure it in the company's name but still be the registered keeper and whether this has any benefits?

Your POLICY will be held in your name - Bargain_carly Limited, or Bargain_carly trading as (whatever) .

Your van can be registerd to anyone (note the section on the V5 /logbook - registerd keeper is not always the legal owner) But some insurers will insist on cover applied to the registered keeper. Usually to stop mum registering a car in her name, for the children to use & save a few £$£$ on premiums - so not really applied in your case.

Most people buying vans will expect to see a company name on the V5, so when you sell it, it won't make any real difference. But if it's ALREADY in your name & you then change keeper to the business, you'll be adding another owner, technically, so it looks like it's changed hands more than it really has. Might make some buyers think something dodgy

Other than that there's no real tax/legal/personal gain for you to register in a specific name - 'cos it is really only a register of the vehicle.

We sell vehicles, all our vehicles are company owned, as far as V5 is concerned, even though I've paid for them!!

  • thanks...so even though i've put my personal name on the V5 it doesnt really matter, as long as the insurance policy is in the company's name.

What you will need to confirm is the no claims bonus, situation.

Will it apply to just your own car, or is anything taken into account for the van, as well.
