touch pad buttons broken

We have (or rather the children have) a Toshiba L450. Due to possible overuse, one of the touchpad buttons has got jammed down. We got it in June, so should be under some sort of warranty, So before we try to attempt to fix it, would trying to do it ourselves invalidate the warranty?.

And, if we do take it back (got from Comet under Home Access Scheme) could they argue that it has been misused? The children are not abusive with it, but it does get well used between the three of them.

Any advice welcome
Thanks
Louise

These idiots at Comet always try and wriggle out so just be careful, yes. Toshiba's default guarantee should also cover you? Could u send to them perhaps??

...wriggle out -- if u have a go yourself I mean, and they then try and pin the blame on you.

    Hi louiseS

My name is Glenn and I’m from Comet.

Based on the information you have supplied, if the fault has been caused due to some manufacturing defect then this will be covered under the guarantee, however, if the fault is found to be the cause of external factors and not because of a problem with the laptop, then this would require a chargeable repair.

Please take the laptop with the sales receipt to your local store, so that the laptop can be sent away for inspection by an engineer at the local service centre.

    Regards

    Glenn

Before you take it, make sure that you backup EVERYTHING important, eg docs, pics, etc, as it is more than likely they will re-load or do something to destroy them. Also ensure you remove any stored passwords, e-mail etc.

Over use......the item should be of durable quality, and should not fail in that short period. Mice, take a hammering and last years. perhaps when it is sorted, you get a mouse to prevent a re-ocurrance.

Also just tell them it has failed, no mention of the kids !!!!
