    Ask any qualified electronic engineer/electrician what a dynamo is and they will tell you the same as what is printed in the dictionary.

    They may call it a dynamo, but it isn't. A dynamo is a DC generator. The AC equivalent is an alternator.

    Agree with killer and fifer. All rotating generators are essentially AC machines. The term dynamo is very sepecific: it's basically an alternator that uses a commutator arrangement to provde full wave rectified DC.
