I am after a device to do the following tasks:
Watch AVI/DIVX files
Act as a PVR with a decent EPG so I can record Freeview
Watch iplayer/4od/itvplayer
Does something exist to do all that?
I realise a nettop like the Acer Revo could do some of these but I don’t think it has a freeview tuner so wouldn’t act as a PVR. I also realise that iplayer and the like occasionally change their format so I guess I need something that can be upgraded/updated if that happens.
Thanks

You could buy a PCI tv tuner card and put into your computer. There are several options for software to receive and record TV in both Windows and Linux.
I have 2 tuner cards in my machine that runs MythTV (open source, PVR software) and it is brilliant. It has all the functionality of a Sky + box without the ridiculous subscription fees. It will play any video format providing you have the relevant codec installed. It will also allow you to archive any recordings from the hard drive to DVD.
I don't know what functionality the Windows media software has but I would imagine it is similar in a lot of ways, except for the price.0 -
Thanks coxy. I will look into that.0
