Connecting Sony HXD870 recorder to a Dell Studio 1558 laptop

Probably a stupid question but... our TV doesn't have a HD connection. Our Sony HXD870 DVD recorder does. Is it possible to connect our Dell Studio 1558 laptop to that instead and then watch through the TV?!?

    wow you're patient, waiting nearly a year before asking again :D

    Simple answer is no, the Sony DVD recorder can only accept inputs from a DV camcorder (DV port) or from analogue inputs via scart or Svideo/composite video. While it's true to say it does have an HD connection (HDMI socket) - it is only an output that connects to the TV input HDMI socket.

    Your laptop can output HDMI or VGA both of which aren't accepted by the DVD recorder.

    Any relatively modern TV nowadays has HDMI and VGA ports but much less unlikely if purchased before around 2005 or a CRT type TV.
