This address stays with the computer/modem until the router is switched off or re-booted.
Only if you have have asked/be given a "static" address then every time you switch on the router the IP address will be the same.
That's 100% right, but I understand it as another IP from another country tried to log in into my account, and I think this is how their anti-fraud system detects unusual activities

It took 3 weeks and several emails & phone calls to get a new pin to enable me to go back online.

I won't try to use their online banking anymore because it is unsafe
  • I too have an Alliance and Leicester account and it was emptied over the last month, beginning on 25th Sep.
I lost over 10K, standing orders were setup to move everything from my linked ISA and Savings Account to my current account, the payments went to a bogus company called Connect Telecom UK.

I believe the fraud to be internal rather than someone getting my security details, because I have only just transferred my ISA to Santander and the account was not accessible via my Alliance and Leicester online account, yet somehow a standing order was setup to move all the ISA cash to the current account.

Has anyone else had their account emptied after applying for a Santander ISA? the ISA also took two to three months to transfer, I guess the fraud was being setup during this time?

A&L (commercial) banking also log the PC that you use. If a different one is used then you get alerted too not just on IP address.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
