Frontline combo on Weds and still fleas on cat

I put frontline combo on both my cats on Wednesday after finding fleas on one cat (I had used frontline combo about 5 weeks before), but I am still seeing live fleas on her.

I have also sprayed the house and her bedding with Indorex, so there shouldn't be any fleas hatching from eggs around the house.

Should I still be seeing live fleas on her 4 days after applying the frontline? :(

Frontline is rubbish now - I would see your vet about something else, I use Stronghold but there is also one called Advantage.
  • Even if the Frontline Combo is working and the Indorex is too there is nothing on this earth which will kill the fleas which are still in the pupal state lurking about in your carpets and furnishings. It's only once they have emerged that either medication can do its work, so it's inevitable that you will still be seeing adult fleas on your pet and may continue to do so for quite some time.

If you're not confident that the Frontline is working, you could consider switching to another medication once it's safe to.

Note: fleas don't hatch from eggs. Remember the life-cycle of the butterfly from school? Egg. Larva. Pupa. Adult. Same for fleas

Thanks B+T, I had for gotten my school biology.
I second the info about Frontline no longer being effective...you need to check with vet as to how soon you can reapply a different medication. In the meantime I think Johnsons 4 Fleas tablets are safe to use...ok, it only acts for 24 hours but may help a little.

Thanks for the replies. I've been back to the vet and she has given me some Advantage. 2 hours later and I can't find a single flea on the cat. :j

I tried everything with my cat - Johnsons tablets, flea drops etc and nothing seemed to work so I took him to the vets as I assumed they would have some more affective 'powerful' stuff.

He gave me Frontline and my cat still has a couple of fleas.

I was unaware you could buy other 'stronger' brands as I had always assumed that Frontline was the best.

So - thanks for the info and I shall be asking around for the other stuff! :)
