Courier for furniture?

Options
I'm currently selling a dining table and chairs on ebay - listed as collection only. I've had someone contact me asking if I'd be prepared to send it by a courier, with them organising the courier.

My feeling is that I don't really want to and it's just making my life really difficult - but I don't really know anything about couriers for large items like this. Does anyone have any experience of this kind of thing? Is it a world of hell getting inovlved with couriers - or am I worrying over nothing?

One tip, if you are going to use a courier organise it yourself as you are the one taking the risk.

Your main problem though will be how to pack it, most couriers are going to want it boxed and secure, and will also require a boxed weight to quote you a price.

Thanks for your reply - definitely I had a feeling this kind of thing was nothing but trouble.

I'm terrible with couriers but I'm sure others will say it might be possible to just tape it to a pallet, but I wouldn't know anything at all about that.

i think if you're selling a dining table and haven't organised your own courier to deliver, you have to expect that a buyer will need to, we haven't all got large vans.!!

OP is absolutely right to refuse a courier being sent, I also would refuse point blank as collection in person is not the same as sending a courier. You collect in person, pay cash (hopefully) and load it into your hired van and drive away.

Send a courier who requires packaging, OP has no idea whether it is insured, or what packing requirements the courier has, no cash on collection. OP stick to your guns, collection only in person.

Thanks, it's all food for thought. Ultimately, I think I'd rather run the risk of losing a bidder than losing my table and my money if something goes wrong with a courier.

Def. don't do this. All seller protection goes out the window as buyer has control of all delivery info. He could easily pay is mate to collect then claim INR.
