Limiting internet speeds on other computers on wireless network

Hi

Is there a way to limit the internet speeds of other computers in the house that use the same wireless network.

Some people love to download all sorts of stuff and it seems to affect everyone else's internet speeds.

Is there a way of limiting the speed for each computer?

Thanks

If your (wireless) router has the QoS (Quality of Service) feature, then it's usually an option available in your router settings . Although I think your ISP might have to support QoS -- easier said then done.

most routers have a 'quality of service' function if you turn that on then that will help.

it can be called many things though, QoS, wifi multimedia (WMM). whatever it is called it will be described as 'priority over less important data' or words to that effect.

I would suspect it does not have the feature; log in to the router and look for QoS or such.
  • How do i log into the router, thanks

most likely you type in to your browser 192.168.1.1
if it asks for a password just leave it blank and click next if that is wrong then try admin/password or sky/password or similar.

also the info might be on the bottom of the router

or post the make/model of your router
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc

if you go through all the settings opptions (usually in advanced wireless settings) and you cant see any QoS or WMM words or letters then it is likely your router doesnt have the option to do QoS
