Bank Account For Poor Credit Rating

Hi
I am starting a new job and they need to pay my wages into a current bank account. I have in the last 12 months had debt problems (ongoing) and am unable to get a normal high street account - can anybody suggest where I can go?????

Hi Sarah, I have a co-op cashminder account, its brill. You get a visa debit that sometimes acts like an electron but i have never had any problems with it but know others have. You can set up dd standing orders on it, you don't get any credit facilities such as an overdraft on it.You also have online banking but this is a little out of date as it doesn't show your real balance if you have debit card payments pending to come out IYKWIM but I just keep a running tally of what i have spent. They also in my opinion have a fantastic customer services team .:)

  • most high street banks offer basic bank accounts. you could get a halifax easycash with a visa electron and online banking. unlike the lloyds basic bank account you can withdraw cash from practically any cash machine. its a basic account so no credit what so ever but it does do what it says and you can also have regular statements online and through the post.

Try for a basic account. The best ones are the Natwest Step account (excellent online banking) and Barclays cashcard account, both have Visa Debits. Lloyds also have a cash account (which I have as a secondary account) which is also quite good, except for the fact you cant withdraw cash with their Visa Debit from non Lloyds ATMs. Most high street banks offer basic accounts, so have a look round, and see which one suits your needs best.
Debt free and staying that way!
