Is this the same for dry ingredients such as flour, these are liquid measurements - it always confuses me

Yep. These recipes work by volume of the ingredients, not by weight the way we do it.

    HTH :)

OK this didn't work for me at all, it was really disgusting. It just tasted like beer

I would really like to make a nice basic loaf but the recipes I've seen are quite complicated - does anyone have a simple recipe that I can try (I'm a novice!) that doesn't involved a bread maker?

    Thanks,

    Mel

does this result in a yeasted like bread or more like a soda like bread?

I've used the recipe involving just flour/beer before and it worked out really well. Can't remember what beer I used, annoyingly, but I think it was budwar. The bread was really tasty but I don't think it kept brilliantly - I had to use it up pretty much the day it was made or the day after. But with such a simple recipe, I wasn't complaining!!!!
  • I make a really simple bread. 500 g of self-raising flour, 500 ml buttermilk and a 40g packet of white onion soup powder, mix it all together, pour into loaf tin and put in oven for an hour at 200'C.

  • Mmmm I tried that beer recipe tonight. I also used my Yorkshire puds tray and apart from them being on the small side, they're really really nice! I added a spoonfull of sugar after reading about the yeasty taste and they're delicious! Will definately use again.
