There may be file system errors on the hard drive that's got Windows on it (this is usually the 'C' drive.) so I would first let Windows scan it and it will fix any such errors automatically.

    1. Right-click C drive and choose 'Properties'
    2. Click the 'Tools' tab
    3. Click 'Check Now'
    4. Tick BOTH options then click 'Start'
    5. When asked if you want to run the error-checker at the next re-start, click 'YES'.
    6. Restart Windows.

Before Windows starts the error-checker will run.
    good advice ^^^
  • Do the problems persist when you boot the computer up into Safe Mode?

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't replied, been offline for a few days. I ran the error checker as dogmaryxx suggested but it didn't solve the problem. I also did a system restore in safe mode but that didn't help either.

I tried doing this today, when the computer is in safe mode I am able to use windows explorer and delete things as normal :D Do you know what the problem might be now? Thank you!

Edit: have just managed to install and run Hijackthis in safe mode. This is the log (with links removed as I'm not allowed to post them):

  • ^^ could somebody have a look at the log for me? Thanks!
  • I'm still having the problem I originally posted about, and after I did another Malwarebytes scan it now seems to have detected something called Spyware.OnlineGames. This wasn't there when I originally had the file deletion problem. Malwarebytes won't remove it, it says it has and then every time I re-start my PC it's back again :(

I don't think I should connect my laptop to the internet at the moment, I'm using an alternative PC so I can't post any logs. Please could someone advise me how to get rid of this? Thanks.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, had no internet for a while due to a fault on the phone line. I've downloaded Hitman Pro today and ran it as you suggested, but it didn't find anything.

Malwarebytes is still coming up saying it's found Spyware.OnlineGames and every time it says it's removed it, it just comes back again. I'm also still having the deletion problems with Windows Explorer. I haven't been able to use my laptop properly for weeks now and I'm getting fed up! I posted a message on the Microsoft forums and they don't seem to know how to fix it either. Any more ideas anyone?
