Glasses Insurance Recommendations

Can anybody recommend a good insurance company to insure eye glasses (spectacles)?

Due to having a very "bad" prescription, I have no choice but to go to high-street opticians for glass and sunglasses as online retailers just can't do the lenses required. Needless to say, this makes them quite expensive and my travel insurance does not adequately cover them.

I have tried "protectyourspecs", but their site simply says that they are "counting down to a new product launch" (but no indication of exactly when this will be) and so not currently taking on new customers.

Any thoughts/recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Cover them under your Home Insurance.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • Thanks Huckster. However, the between the excess on my Home Insurance policy and the loss of No Claims Bonus, it is not really practical to "insure" them under that - as the costs of claiming (present and future) would outweigh what I get back from the claim - hence I am really looking for a more specialised glasses & sunglasses insurer.

The answer would be to reduce the excess you pay on your home insurance which you will be surprised how little discount you are receiving for having an increased excess. How much are the glasses worth and what is your insurance premium
