Lidl

Hi,

I went to my local Lidl this morning to get some mince, which was on offer at £1.19 for 500g. When I took 10 packets to the checkout I was approach by a member of staff saying they were restricting this to 5 per customer due to demand and asked if they could take 5 back!

This was not advertised, which I explained to her, but I did give them back. Having reflected on this should I have given 5 back or taken the extra 5 for myself? After all I had made sure I was at the store just after 10am to ensure that I got some.

I went back at 11am and all the packets had sold out.

This was a good bargain which I was only on offer this weekend and I went in yesterday when they had none left, but said they were re-stocking in time for today.

What would you have done?

I would have bought 5,then gone back a little later for another 5,use a different checkout though..
  • They only had one open and I did return at 11am (1 one later) to try and get some more!

I was wondering if they were in their rights to actually ask a customer to put some back and where they would of stood if the customer had refused?

There offers are often 5 per customer, but as said before, get 5, then another 5 if you can!!

Totally within their rights, I'm afraid - and quite a reasonable approach, really, given that it allowed other customers to have a chance.
  • christ you got 5 at a bargain why you clogging this board up with this? How greedy!

If there wasnt a limit what would stop 1 customer going in at opening time every time they had an 'offer' and completely cleaning the shelves?

Well said Doc and Leosmummy, I totally agree with you both! People's complete and utter greed with these sorts of bargains never fails to amaze me:(. Instead of moaning, why can't the OP simply be pleased that they got not just one, but FIVE whole items? This then provides the opportunity for another (and hopefully not so greedy) person to take part and enjoy the bargain too.

    Thank you for your replies.

I think the issue of my greed here is a little unfair, like many people I have a low income at the moment and like to take advantage of bargains as they come up! If the offer had been advertised as 5 per customer then no one would have any reason to question this, as it would have been outlined prior to reaching the till.

I would have had no problem had it had been the case. I'm just disappointed that it wasnt stated in any of the pre-advertising, but understand a need for a reasonable limit on these kind of offers.

And maybe been kind enough to post giving other members the heads up about the offer, which is not even hinted at in the original post.

I had hoped to get some of this mince today (only found out about it late last night) but when I went in at about 10.30am they'd all gone, not surprising if people were buying it in such large quantities in each store!

Nothing greedy about it, if I'd wanted them and arrived early enough then I'd have filled my boots too, same as everyone else. They're just miffed because they couldn't be bothered to make the effort and missed out.
