  • The only explanations I can think of is either your computer is misbehaving or an infection (although unlikely).

If you want to rule the latter option out:
    Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 - FileHippo.com
Install the above, UPDATE tab, CHECK FOR UPDATES, run a quick scan and remove anything it finds. Post log here.

It's not just a case of Google search results opening in a new tab is it? In that case, the back button will not be available as you have to close the tab IE has opened. Your original search results will still be there in another tab.

Well worth checking for any malware as already suggested.
Not sure from the previous posts if you have Chrome installed or not. Worth trying it to see if the problem is unique to your IE. Chrome will sit there alongside IE without interfering with it and you can always uninstall it later if you want. Just don't let it set itself to be your default browser if you want to leave IE as your main browser.

Hi again Victor, thanks for the reply. I'm getting really confused now as to what i am actually using. I use IE but use google to search. My home page is google. I dont as yet use google chrome.

Does it now do a clean scan without reporting MyWebSearch? You want to get rid of that.
If so, is the problem still there?
