A bank account with debit card pending transactions online?

As the title says! One of the great things about the capital one credit card is the website instantly shows any activity as a pending transaction with the retailer name and the time. I'd love the same thing for a normal bank account with a debit card.

My halifax account instantly shows a reduction in available balance when I use my debit card but there are no details for transactions until they show up properly days later. Yes, I could ring up but surely there must be an bank that puts this information online. It would also be good if they showed direct debit requests as pending transactions as I believe they are often requested days in advance. HSBC do show some pending transactions but not debit card ones and not appearing instantly.

Anybody know anything?

No idea on that sorry but how quickly do Cap 1 cards go through the retailers chip and pin thingy? mine goes like greased lightning.

I also would like this on bank accounts, like you capital one is great for showing pending amounts( It's great for keeping tabs on my husbands spending and whereabouts!!! ;)) They show up pretty much straight after the transaction has been made.
Sorry i can't answer your question but i would also like to see this happen.
  • I really wish Barclays did this on their online banking. We have access to the transactions when customers call up so it shouldn't be too hard for them to put it on internet banking.

I'm sure Natwest did this when I banked with them a couple of years ago.

With direct debits, we can only see them on the day they debit the account.

It would be good for *us* to see, but I guess the majority would be just as confused - "nice, Tesco just charged £1 for the petrol, let's spend the rest! Boo, bad bank charged us more than it was at first!"

Also, because many debit cards are offline (don't need online authorisation), it would not be guaranteed to show up before the merchant submits the final transaction either, still adding to the confusion.
    Enjoy the silence...

    That's it in a nutshell.

Your issuer will only see the authorisations, not cleared transactions.

Showing customers the authorisations will only lead to more people coming on here complaining about how their bank is misleading them and trying to con them out of more money :j

Natwest still do this if you have the blue "full authorisation" debit card.
