I while back I managed to convert a load of video clips mainly from my phone and camera into MP4 files. but I have NO idea as to what I did. (or why lol) I remember trying to rotate some of them so I must of done it then.
Is there a free download that I can use to convert them back into avi???
There are also a couple of files which end in 3gp. when I click on them to play, there is sound only (my son's babbling when he was a baby)
Please, please help as most of the videos are of my eldest son as a small baby and I would be gutted if nothing could be done!

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Encoders-Converter-DIVX-Related/XMedia-Recode.shtml will probably do it just fine. 3GP is usually used for media players so you probably resized the original down when you made it and that loss of resolution is not reversible.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ will play most things without the need to re-convert.0 -
thanks quickbreaks - I have downloaded the programme.
The thing is I have no idea how it works and don't want to make things any worse. I couldnt find anything in the help section to help either.
Would you be able to explain what I need to do in non-techie terms for me please. I can usually manage to do things by myself (via a lot of googling) but as I said, I dont want to run the risk of damaging the files any further.

Virtually all video converters will simply copy the original to the chosen new format. The link I posted was simply the first hit I came across for a download of the program and isn't its home page which is unfortunately German - http://www.xmedia-recode.de/ I haven't checked if Google translate makes a decent job of the help pages as I found it very easy to use but try this - http://translate.google.co.uk/?hl=en&sl=de&tl=en&sugg=w&hints=true&q=http://www.xmedia-recode.de/hilfe/xmediarecode.html
I'd suggest you should try VLC first as there probably isn't any need to convert anway but if you do in essence all you need do is open the file, select an output format, and click the encode button.0
