 not sure if i have put this in the right place
i brought a mile machine w1514 in june 2008 so just over 2 years ago, withing 8 months (tops) its was making a banging noise, so it was repaired and a new heating element fitted
few weeks ago miele came out again to fit a new door seal as for some reason it had perished and was causing clothing to come out the wash with holes in it
low and behold less than a month later there is holes in the clothing again and grey shreds of seal over clothing, in the door, over the door basically these little grey shreds (almost like the marks left when using a rubber to run out pencil mistakes)
im at wits end and am now looking down route of a new machine (wont be a miele thats for sure !) they are already stating that my 5 year warranty is not showing for my machine despite me having original paperwork etc and that i sent off for the extended 5 year warranty
i feel so disappointed, the machine cost a lot of money and was brought for its seemingly reliability, i now wish id gone for a basic £170 beko from comet
any ideas ? vie check all round the drum for sharp bits as did the engineer when he came out few weeks ago

I've only had 4 washing machines in 50 years, never had an expensive "famous name" one and never had an unreliable machine either. It seems to me that there is an awful lot of "brand" snobbery out there.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Don't take this lying down, Debtmess. Write to the CEO of Miele, tell them you are going to publicise the deplorable service you have had from this machine. Miele is able to charge extortionate prices because people believe their machines to be ultra reliable - you can demolish that myth. Ask for a new machine and compensation for the damaged clothing and your time, trouble and inconvenience. Also get in touch with the company you purchased the machine from and tell them what has happened and that you will be warning others not to buy Miele if you don't get satisfaction. They've lost the paperwork for your extended guarantee? So it would seem their admin is not up to scratch either.
Good luch with this.

Those words are a bit harsh.......banging noise so you get a new heating element, hmm, so the engineer replaces some bearings or obstruction in the drive / drum for the noise, fits a new door seal and for good measure also goes the extra mile to replace the weak spot, the element. These get caked up very quickly and a new one will be more efficient.
Now your problem needs a bit more investigation, still a sharp object near the drum perhaps? Call them back and be nice and have a friendly chat with head office.0 -
have to say, I had a miele for 5 years which was purchased on the basis that I wouldn't need to worry about another one for at least 10 years (previously had an Indesit which needed replacing after 12 months and in those days, I didn't have children). Didn't happen that way! Just outside of the 5 year guarentee, the heating element needed replacing at the cost of £179 - 6 months later I had a chap out to it and was told it had a 'terminal' problem with the motherboard which would cost at least another £200 to fix. I won't buy from them again. Very, very disappointed. I now have a Beko which is working fine - let's see how long it goes!0

I had the exact same problem with a Hoover machine I bought in January. Clothing coming out of the machine with small holes in, and bits of grey shredded rubber in the machine. Very annoying.
I had Hoover out to the machine and the drum was 'not running true' so as it went round it was going in and out, which meant that it was catching in certain places, trapping clothes and causing holes. it was catching the rubber seal too and shredding it. They fitted a new drum and it has been fine ever since.
Try turning the drum and see if it it catching the rubber seal anywhere.
One thing it did get me into the habit of was putting more delicate items (thin t shirts etc) into net washing bags to protect them from getting trapped. Maybe give that a go too. Something like 99p for 2 from Morrisons.

My words may seem a bit harsh, Totalsolutions, but I am fed up with companies shirking their responsibilities. I do believe that EU consumer protection legislation states that if a domestic appliance breaks down within 6 months of purchase then the product is deemed to have been defective in the first place. So much for quality control! I really wouldn't expect a heating element to need replacement after 8 months, especially when I would have been looking forward to a good six years plus trouble free usage. What do Miele washing machines cost? Exactly. Total rip-off.
Buying domestic appliances is a lottery, and it shouldn't be.
