Co-housing

I'm currently dealing with the stresses of caring for ageing parents and want to save my son from the same financial/care/logistic problems when I am older.
I have been looking at co-housing projects and wondered if anyone on this site has experience of them?
I'm sure I have a lot to learn, but living in a community with all the benefits of support etc from neighbours seems like an option worth considering.
