OCCTI's 6 year plan!!

Evening everyone!!!:D

I have been a lurker for a while, but have decided to take the plunge and become a fully fledged MFW!!

A little bit of detail.....I am about to start a new job after over five years in the same area and industry, I have adult children who still live at home and am married to a wonderful man who I have spent the past 17+ years with. I have a couple of dogs, am a committed vegan, follow the pagan calendar and live in a rural area.

Our dream is to pay off our mortgage within the next six years, then any outstanding 0% debts. Within seven years, we want to have enough money saved to be able to take a career break and rent somewhere in Italy for six months to learn the language....

So, how much do I need .....well, my mortgage is on a fixed rate for the next two years, I can only op 10% per annum so I have set up a dd for my normal payment and the 10% on top. In addition, I have signed up for a 2 year bond which has a reasonable interest rate and am currently putting all the 'spare' cash into that. I have worked out that my monthly op needs to average £500....so at the moment I am coming out about £300 short and need to find ways to recify that......:o

I am spending the next couple of weeks planning my spending, budgets and meal planning ready to put everything into action from my new year which begins on November 1st....:j

I love the idea of mortgage pigs and do pottery one evening a week, so my next project there will be to make myself a 'mortgage monster' money bank and start filling that!!:D

Now my confession....I am also buying myself a netbook so am saving for that too...it may seem extravagant but I was planning on a weekend away and don't have time for that for a while so will treat myself to the netbook instead!!

Anyhoo...I am new to this, need all the encouragement and help I can get and am looking forward to hearing from you all and following your journeys...

  • Do you speak Italian now? That's quite some ambition, I would love to learn Italian properly (my Nona was Italian) but OH is about as good at languages as Bambi was at ice skating! When I can finally go part time, I'd love to take lessons (and learn the piano).

    Good luck!

No, csa...not a single word!!:rotfl:its just one of those ambitions i have had for years...i love italy, as does my dh, and i want to spend time there...somewhere deep in the countryside, totally away from tourism and constant english language speakers...:shhh: :jjust relaxing and really getting to know the culture....:A my personal idea of bliss......:D Its something I have considered for a long time, but was unable to really feel that it was realistic because of where i worked...my new job allows me to take a career break though...so suddenly my dream can be a reality :T:happyhear just have to pay off the mortgage monster first..;)

  • Hahaaaaa, brilliant. Not sure they are that into paganism out there though? Have you looked into it at all? Career break sounds ace, I think I'm allowed one but I don't want a break, I just want it to stop so I can retire!!!!!! A wee while to go just now though (about 30years!).

  • There is definitely an appeal about Italy. i would love to visit there too. What a wonderful idea to be working towards. I look forward to hearing your progress.
  • I will definately learn a little italian before i get there...otherwise i will feel far too dense!!:rotfl: I just really want to learn the bulk of it via the real thing....:D

csa...i doubt very much that paganism would be welcomed by the catholic majority there, but i wouldn't really describe myself as a pagan, more just into following the natural cycles of the planet and the pagan calendar is the closest to it so i have basically hijacked a few of their festivals...:o i have a few 'pagan' type beliefs, but i would have to describe myself as fundementally an atheist...doubt if that will be any more acceptable but, hey, thats who i am!!:D:D

well, spent yesterday sorting out my budget, making plans for next weeks food without spending any more cash and sorting out reams of paperwork i had lying around!! Will be spending the rest of the week sorting out the house so will spend the rest of the day cooking for the week ahead....

I also cleared a shelf of the bookcase earlier and found a few extra pennies...40p actually;)...and have put that into my temporary mortgage pig!!!:j:j No, not exactly a life altering amount, but very much sticking to the mindset of my online name.....every coin really does get me one step closer to my dream....:A

    Whatever works for you lady!!

I enjoy budgeting but I get frustrated because payday is two weeks away and I want my money NOW so I can distribute it to the correct places. I'm soooo impatient!

Hehe - I have family in Turin, TBH i didn't find it obviously Catholic but then i am RC so maybe i've just been desensitised to it. :rotfl:

Really if you place with a snowball calculator or somthing similar you will see how every penny really does count.
