Benefits when moving...

Hi.

Looking to move from my current flat to another similar flat 200 or so miles away nearer my family.

I am looking to get one of those interest free loans from the JC. Can you get them to cover deposits etc..? As i think i would probably need about half the money for the deposit+month in advance. I would also need to get a few new bits of furniture as most is on it's last legs and also cover the cost to hire a van to get my gear up there.

Can you get one loan to cover this...?

I have tried looking for work etc to cover this but there is none around here.

Let's hope your son doesn't need any medical/dental things whilst you don't have PR then. Do you have any idea how important PR is?

Yes i do, i have done some research and it lookslike i have missed the automatic right to it because he was born in march 03 where anyone born after 1st Dec 03 if their name is on the birth certificate they automatically get it.

Local councils often operate deposit guarantee schemes for those on low incomes/benefit/housing need so check into that and the eligibility for it and that could cut down on outlay.

I can't advise on DWP loans/grants for furniture as I'm not familiar with how they operate but do consider sites like Freecycle, Freegle and Gumtree Freebies, plus local furniture charity shops such as the British Heart Foundation, Salvation Army, Emmaus, etc.
