Email hacked

Hope someone can help as I'm not up on technological things.

I've received several emails from my fathers email address recently. I recognised them as spam as they all contain website links (haven't clicked any). My father hasn't sent any emails and isn't aware of it so I assume he's been hacked. There's about 10 a day being sent.

Anyone know a way out of this? Is it best for him to change his password or just delete the account altogether?

On your father's computer (although you can do this too if you want!) download malwarebytes Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 - FileHippo.com Install the programme, UPDATE tab, CHECK FOR UPDATES, then run a full scan and post log here.

Then download and install:
Download HijackThis 2.0.4 - FileHippo.com
And click on the top button of the programme and copy log here.

In your father's e-mail account, is it showing he sent these emails in his SENT folder? May be worth changing the password now and afterwards when all the scans have been done.

Thank you for your help. Yes they are showing in the sent folder. We've changed his password and will change it again later. I'll also do that other thing you have mentioned. Thanks so much.

Nothing infected from the malwarebytes log.

I can't download hijackthis, I think there might be a problem with the link on their website as it takes you back to the homepage. Is there anything you recommend other than hijack this?

change the password on a known clean computer, and then don't use your fathers computer to log into it untill it is also a known clean computer.

It is also best to change every password of everything he/you have ever logged onto on that computer.
