low miles isnt always best
my last car but one was a low mileage FDSH history car
the gearbox blew up without warning
a low mileage car is often used for short journeys, doesnt heat up to optimum temps etc
so a low mileage car can have its own problems
its an older car as its 5+ years old
+1.
My current car had only 16k on the clock at 3 years old when I bought it - rear suspension bushes and brake discs/pads all round had to be done before I picked it up  (although it is French :rotfl:)
It was no doubt used to toddle to the shops and back twice a week (who buys a 2.0L petrol for such a journey? :rotfl:) and will no doubt suffer for it later in life (the clutch and the gearbox will fail prematurely, I'm sure of it)
Can't argue with paying £4900 for a 3 year old car that was £17k new though

One would have hoped that a Vauxhall dealer ("Stealer") could have eliminated these faults then, or am I being a tad over optimistic?
yes but if a fault wont present itself then its not always easy
as you see in the OP it was 1 week before it reappeared
a dealer(or any garage) doesnt have limitless time to constantly check on a car
sometimes it has to be returned to the customer to see i they can get the fault to reappear, show a pattern etc0 -

Ex-Motability cars used to some of the best used cars in the secondhand market, mainly due to large number of elderly owners that treated the cars as their own.
These days you have as much chance of getting car that has been cained around by the elderly person's grandson or been obtained through a dubious DLA claim.
When I was in the trade full ttime back in the 90's they where good news, 4 years ago I dipped my hand in again to secure a 3 yr old A170CDi to sell on for a nice profit, £500 of repairs later with more due i got rid through the trade, and just broke even.
Car looked OK, FSH, 36k, but needed brakes, all four tyres where odd makes and worn funny, the wheel alignment was well out, both mirrors had been glued back together internally, so didn't adjust, after this experience I did a bit of research and found out that tyres aren't covered for damage, such as kerbing.
I am almost certain it had been clocked aswell, but as it was so new the only thing to go by was the service history, fully stamped but had done 32k in just over 3 years and just 4k in the last 12 months, pity you can't check the service history in detail at an auction, or at least no at that one.0
