Public transport to Thorpe park- a cheaper way?

Myself and my bf have a free sun ticket to Thorpe Park next wednesday. We are going to go over night and have booked a hotel at London Paddington.

However, i am a little taken back that it seems a return to Thorpe park is going to cost around £20 each?!!! Thats more than what our trains from our home to london is!

Does anyone know the cheapest way to go..im a little off put now!

And for those who say i got the tickets free..well yes i did (minus newspaper costs) but the point of going was a cheap day out!

x

If you go from Waterloo to Staines it is £8.20 off peak return, and off peak single with Oyster from Paddington to Waterloo on the tube is £1.80 and the shuttle bus to TP is £3 return per person. £14.80 pp return journey.

Or an offpeak zone 1-6 oyster single at £2.40 will get you to Felpham.
Offpeak day return Felpham to Staines = £4.10.
Then bus, as above = £3 return.

Total return for each person = £11.90.

Exactly the same route as previous post.
Buy Felpham/Staines ticket at Paddington or Waterloo, then no need to get off the train at Felpham.

You could go to Heathrow terminal 3 on the tube ( from Paddington involves one change at Earls Court), walk a few minutes from there to the bus station and get bus no 441 to Staines bus station and then the shuttle. A zone 1-6 off peak travelcard is £7.50 and would cover you to heathrow 9in zone 6) and buses do not have zones, with the 441 being a london bus route you could use the TC for this. You would then have the £3 return shuttle bus cost to pay so £10.50 pp. If you want a cheap day out remember to take a picnic and drinks with you, plus cheap rain ponchos from somewhere like the £ shop for the water rides.

Similar route tube to Hounslow west which is before Heathrow on the tube and London bus 203 from outside there to Staines bus station to pick up the shuttle.

If you don't want to use an Oyster card, then amend my earlier post to...

Or have another read of post #4, which is cheaper and doesn't need to use Oyster.

If you are in London for 3 days then you really should get an Oyster, as cash fares are so much more expensive, e.g. a single peak tube journey is £1.80 with Oyster £4 paying cash, plus Oyster caps at the daily travelcard rate. £2 cash bus fare and £1.20 with oyster and a daily cap of £3.90 with Oyster for just bus use. It is £3 deposit which you can usually get with any remaining credit under £10 from the ticket office before you leave. You can just purchase one with credit on it on arrival in London at the station, then top up at the ticket office or tubes as required.

If you go on the www.tfl.gov.uk webiste you can plan your journeys in advance as it shows you the quickest way to get to places. You can get the bakerloo tube line from Paddington to Waterloo and it takes 16 mins approx. Waterloo from Paddington is about a 3.5 to 4 mile distance approx I would say.
  • I looked at oyster but it still confuses me. Lots of my friends have moved down to london and say its not worth it.

With our plans we are planning on zipping around zone 1 a lot, doesnt oyster deduct for each time its scanned?

Ive tried to understand it but it really confuses me! x

if the off peak cap is £5.60 anyway isnt it going to work the same as me getting a travelcard (that we were planning on getting all our cars when we arrive from a booth and i think i can get 1/3 off with my railcard?)
