Can talk talk change my contract

Hi I have recently signed up for an 18 month contract with Talk talk home phone and internet, total £ 18.49 per month, i got a letter saying that the line rental was going up from 11.49 to 12.05 per month, are they allowed to put this up when i signed up for line rental at 11.49 ? seems a bit odd to me, just wondered if any one knew before I kick off down the phone to them !! as i have had no end of problems with them up to now,
thanks

    But they're cheap, right?

Hang on, isn't £12.05 exactly the same price as BT?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Hi yes it's the same price but surely they cannot just put up the price that you have agreed to, can they ?? doesn't matter whether they are cheap or not if it should be such price per month for an 18 month contract surely that's what is should stay at or am i deluded lol

It was argued that BT's increase was 'to the detriment' of customers so gave them carte blanche to leave without breach of contract penalties.

I'm sure you'd have trouble trying that with Talk Talk though so, unless your desperate.....

  • Its not about being desperate its about the principle these big companies seem to just do as they like, i thought an 18 month contract at a certain price meant just that, it would be all the same if they had put the price up double, what if the person couldn't afford it, so really i would be within my rights to cancel the contract without any penalties because they haven't done whatrir they agreed, right, i might just do that i am fed up of being ripped off

The change is to your detriment, so you can leave without penalty. Write letters and keep copies - and don't be surprised if in a few years time they come after you with debt collectors.

TT are not changing your contract. All telecoms contracts give them the right to increase prices within the minimum term. If you want you can leave without penalty as above. Great chance to escape TT, so take it.
