Internet Security

I have had major problems with Virgin Media Total Security Package.
Speaking to the tech people they suggested AVG free version.

When I used AVG I kept getting a message to say internet explorer had stopped working and "Data Execution Protection" came up as the reason.

As I do internet banking etc: which is the best security pack to use?

If vm said jump off a cliff would you do so, dont use avg is my personal recommendation, id go for avast, avira or mse, if you are with barclays you get free kaspersky
  • Avira is what I use but microsoft security essential and avast seem to be equally good. Also best to run malwarebytes along side too.

    Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 - FileHippo.com

If you're worried that you have an infection, download malwarebytes, install, UPDATE tab, CHECK FOR UPDATES, then run a scan. Remove everything it finds and post log here for further advise.

I'd second what The Grandmaster says, go for the free versions of either Avira, Avast or MSE but first download Malwarebytes check for any nasties and post the log file here if it finds any.
  • Wow !!
If VM's own nerd herd suggest using someone else's antivirus I'm glad I dumped theirs for Avast !! :)
I've also got MSE on another machine and I'm very happy with both.

did you make sure uninstalled the VM one first?

also like the others I would not use AVG either so uninstall that too.
for free antivirus use microsoft security essentials, Avira or Avast, and for paid I would only recommend kaspersky (which you get free with barclays online banking)

    - banks say use Rapport or else
    - Virgin say use ours or else
    - AOL say use ours or else
    - et al

Virgin already spy on you even if you don't use their software
Previously Virgin tried to sneak Phorm in without telling anyone, but thank go were caught.
The moral of this story, just cos they say so, doesn't mean you have to use it.

Last word, read about Phorm, then tell me you trust Virgins cuckoo in your nest !
