No, but here's a thread with people who have:

£5000 to patch up cracks and paint on a coat of Dulux weathershield?

This is a particularly good link: http://www.ciao.co.uk/Protectacoat__Review_5544408
  • They gave us a quote last year just to paint the front of the house he spent nearly 3 hours in our house giving us all this waffle about special surfaces etc, then said as a special rate it would be £8K!! Guess who was quickly shown the door.

Well listen to this....the previous owners had this done. No idea bow much they paid, but they did it back in 2000 and given a 20 yr guarantee.

Well, as we are now trying to sell the property damp readings have been given at front of house where the rendering is.

It turns out that the rendering that protectcoat has done, has been laid over the damp proof course.

Therefore the damp proof course is no longer working, as the damp is coming up from the ground, going onto the rendering - bypassing the DPC then once above the DPC going back into the Brickwork.

Thus the rendering causing a "bridge effect".

All the specilists recommend gettin back in touch with Protectacoat, ask them what they were playing at, and get them back to hack off the rendering over the DPC.

Sureley they wont kick up a fuss as all they are doing is sending their workman round to hack it off.....not costing them any more other than paying their own blokes. Be in their best interest to keep customers happy surely....unless they are gonna come up with some excuse, like the previous owner was happy with it, so tuff luck!!

Does the guarantee cover duff workmanship, as all it says is that it covers "defects"!!

What do you think the chances of this is????
  • Was the guarantee transferrable i.e. did it get signed over to you when you bought the property. If yes then surely you have a claim against the company. Must be worth a go.

Yes we did get it signed over to us. Has to be done within 2 months of completion.
  • Used to be an employee. Don't think you are the lucky one who had the Marketing Manager show up to your door giving you the opportunity to become one of their 'display homes'. Every Salesman says that he is the 'Marketing Manager' and that he would like your house to be his 'display home'.

Don't be convinced that he has driven a long way, he actually lives in your area.

After showing you numerous certificates and customer comments, they will throw water on your house and try to convince you that it is all going inside and you have damp. If your walls are painted, the water will roll off and they will tell you that your walls are not 'breathing'.

The price will come down from more than £8000 for one terraced house wall to less than £3000 over 4 drops in price (or exchanges for your 'referral fee').

I left this company not just because they were tricking people into believing that their houses are falling down, but I met quite a number of angry customers who's product was rubbish and the company was refusing to uphold their 20 year guarantee. In one instance, my boss told me that the gentleman who was complaining could only have his product fixed if he bought the product for another one of his house walls.

Unethical, and I still have sleepless nights over the people that I sold the product to.

Search these forums for 'protectacoat' - there was a long-running thread about them, not many people who had dealings with this company had anything positive to say about them or their product.
"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"
