Norton Subscription Coming To An End

This has probably been asked loads of times before but [STRIKE]I couldn't be bothered to look[/STRIKE] the search button isn't working! :p

Basically I have Norton Internet Security 2005. It's due to expire in less than 2 weeks.

Do I uninstall it and re-install it to get another years worth out of it? If so will this protect me with all the new updates for the next year?

Or do I buy 2007? If so do I only need the upgrade or is it better buying the whole thing? If so does anyone know the cheapest place to buy a genuine version? No dodgy ebayers please! :p

BTW, I know loads of people hate it but it works for me and feel comfortable with it! :D

i don't think you can just uninstall and reinstall. If you want my opinion I would ditch Norton and would go for AVG antivirus free edition. I have been using it for a couple of years now and no problems so far.

I'm sure others will be along soon to offer their opinions.

I was lazy and decided to renew online by the application prompts, (and they did not make it clear they were going to add on VAT until the end !!!! ). But I thought I needed some sort of protection and Norton has protected my PC ok so thought it was best to stay with something I knew that worked for me.

Anyway ..... I was shocked to find that PC World do Norton at Half Price and I think I saw it in Staples at half price too .... however I would have saved £7 or £8 approx by uninstalling and reinstalling on a new version. So .... if you want to save something AND have a back up disc its worth shopping around and not taking the easy option and renewing online.

Yeah, it probably won't work - there'll be a registry entry in Windows somewhere so Norton will pick up that you've already installed and used your 1st year's subscription. I tried it a few years ago and it sussed me!

I also agree that the best thing to do would be to ditch it and go with either AVG or Avast (freebies) or if you insist on paying then either Kaspersky or Nod32.

Always worth looking on Amazon for their (varying from one week to the next) prices for ZoneAlarm/McAfee/Norton "Internet Security Suites", if you want to stay with a group of like-minded applications.

And yes, as JSF says, it's often cheaper to buy next year's product rather than renewing the antivirus subscription in this year's installed version.
