Huge Lloyds bank charge

My son accidentally went 34 pence overdrawn on his bank account for 2 days. (A slightly larger mobile bill than he expected).
lloyds bank charge £27
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
After a few phone calls they refunded him, but lost 6 customers as we are all moving elsewhere. The final straw in a series of bad customer service by what used to be a decent bank.....:o

YOu know, the rules are really simple. Stay within your limit and you wont get charged. Go over and you will and the charges are always clear. Suck it up - you would have gotten your bill before hand. You should know to add the bill to your balance to make sure you had enough. You couldnt calculate, you broke the rules, you got charged the fee that are clearly set out. No hidden fees, no suprises!!
By you i mean your son btw.
I get charges too and yeah it sucks but i knew the rules beforehand!!0 -

very well said laurenbelle. i've been overdrawn before but I knew it was my own fault, no one elses.0 -
They refunded the charge, which was his fault (not a case of poor service) and you're not happy?
Oh well.0 -
Surely the 6 of you between you could have come up with the 34p needed to avoid this charge?0

So what's to stop it happening elsewhere with any other bank ?
Always best to tackle the root of the problem.
Seems a pointless move though as from 02 Dec 10 Lloyds are introducing a £10 fee free/interest free overdraft buffer.0 -
It's always bad service when a customer falls foul of the rules! I thought everybody knew that LOL
OP and his family will be back on here very soon as ALL banks would have charged a fee in a case like this.
Shame they have all closed their accounts as from December Lloyds are introducing a £10 buffer to prevent incidents like this. Will the new banks have this?
Did OP not read the leaflet sent to all customers about this?0 -

Doesn't natwest offer £100 interest free buffer facility on their current plus account?
Money can come from them no longer paying interest on credit balances...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I'd say that's generous of Lloyds to refund it, not all banks would! Surely he would have had the opportunity to see the bill before the money came out??0

All of you declaring your lack of sympathy ought to consider that, breach of conditions or not, it's an unreasonably high fee for a trivial misdemeanor. And no, not all banks would impose the charge in such a case, and any with sense would refund it when challenged, because if such a case came before the ombudsman it would certainly be found to be unjustified.0

Yes I can see what you are saying but I should imagine the charge was automatically issued when the account went overdrawn without authorisation. When it was reviewed Lloyds obviously realised that it would be an unreasonable charge for such a trivial amount. I was unsure what point the OP was trying to make, I could understand the annoyance if Lloyds had refused to refund but the process described could have occurred with any bank rather than being exclusive to Lloyds, so switching banks seems rather pointless to me!0
