Christmas temp at Next

Hi there :j

Had an interview at Next yesterday and got the job :T

So was wondering if anyone knows how the uniform allowance works, its 75% off but do you get it straight away (obviously so you can buy clothes to go to work in) as the manager said the normal staff discount of 25% would be after 2 weeks, but wasnt sure about the uniform discount.
Also, does anyone know what they include, is it just the smart clothes or does it include shoes and coats?
Thanks :)
Everyone who thanks me when ive helped will get a 5% share when I win this weeks Euromillions......:p

  • Congrats!

I'd imagine that it would be prior to the 2 weeks so that you can obtain your actual outfit for work. (But mostly this is just a bump)

    Congrats again.

When I worked at Next as a Christmas temp we never got the 75% off and just had to wear our own clothes. But this was a few years ago.

    well done!

but how did u go about the scenario questions?-they all seem so wordy!
  • I doubt that they can force you to wear Next clothes until you receive the uniform allowance. I think the 25% rule is to stop people taking a job to buy a big ticket item at discount then quit after a day or two.obviously the rule came in back when jobs were easy to come by!

The whole interview was really relaxed. I was so nervous beforehand thinking it was going to be like a big shot executive interview with snooty managers who think theyre running harrods :o
But it wasnt. The interviewer was the ladies' dept manager, as soon as i sat down she started joking and reeling off health and safety information (you know those ridiculously obvious warnings they give).
The scenario questions came so easy because i didnt feel like she was judging every word i said.I could have been talking to my nan! And trust me, i am terrible at interviews. This one probably had the most scenario and example based questions ive ever had yet it was the best interview ive had - and not just because i got the job.
Tbh, when she gave me the scenario, i pretty much gave my answers in bullets points with "you know like" between each one.

As an ex-Next manager I can tell you that Christmas temps do not get staff uniform. You will be on a temporary contract so will also be issued with a temporary discount card which is vaild for the contract of your employment which is normally 2 weeks after Christmas once all the sale stock has gone. Depending on the size of the store to how many Christmas temps there are, my store used to recruit upto 60 Christmas temps. We used to take about 4-6 on after Christmas on permanent contracts.
The 25% discount card id for you and your immediate family.
You dont need to wear Next clothing, black smart trousers and a shirt is the kind of thing we used to ask the temps to wear and they were issued with a Next badge.
As regards uniform if you were employed on a permanent contract as say a saturday person you got £75 at 75% off which normally covered a pair of trousers or a skirt and two tops!

Oh and make sure you fill in the tax forms with them, they have so many Christmas staff that normally they all get put on BR to start off with to get them on the system.
As a temporary member of staff you will also accrue holiday which will be paid to you in your final payslip but you are not entitled to bonuses.
  • Does anyone know if the larger stores hire xmas temps on night shifts?
