where do I buy glace fruits?

Options
Hi again Gurus!

I ventured back to ask another question! Sorry!

I have just made 6 okish looking mini christmas cakes. I was hoping to give as Christmas presents. So they are stored away for present. However I thought it be nice when decorating to maybe do one or two with glace fruit topping rather than icing etc!

Can anyone give me an idea where i might get some glace fruit other than cherries, or if there is another way to top the cakes!

Also any suggestions as to what I can decorate iced cakes with! (when i ice them obviously!)

I saw some lovely little cakes in Tescos they were dressed with a combination of nuts and cherries.
Maybe someone knows how but could you use a melted jam such as apricot to coat the fruits and nuts and make them glace yourself?

Hmm iced cakes... Maybe pop an indoor sparkler in?

I have seen recipes on how to do the apricot jam thing (Mary Berry) but it says as an ingredient as Glace fruit! Could I use dried fruit and coat with the jam thing (and a ribbon when I get some!!)

will need to make another cake and ice for my bf as he says thats the ONLY way to serve Christmas Cake!!!!

We dont really have market here other than farmer market (as live near Perth and its quite a farmers market place!) looked on ebay, think it costs too much..might just ice it! Or see if another way to decorate!

    Thanks for prompt replies!

I've done those glace fruit & nut toppings (the light Chrsitmas cake from the WI Christmas cookbook). One year I found a plastic drum of mixed glace fruit including melon & all sorts of bits & pieces from the local deli but it was quite expensive. Since then, I've used the 3-colour glace cherries (green, red & yellow) which I get from Julian Graves (chain of shops selling nuts, dried fruit, baking stuff, spices, etc, I don't know if it covers the whole country - we're East Midlands) & I use those on top of the cake with Brazil nuts & sometimes pecans, then glaze the whole lot when it's all arranged nice, with warm sieved apricot jam. Julian Graves is a really useful shop but I recommended it once when I answered somebody else's query on here & they hadn't heard of it which made me think it might not be a chain that covers the whole of the UK. I like their spices as you get a decent size bag and don't have to have one of those tiny wasteful little jars.
