Ford Mondeo / airbag problem

Hi,

Can any mechanically minded souls please help me?

My airbag warning light has come on. I know there is a diagnostic code for when it flashes, however, it doesn't flash but is constantly on. I have cleaned the connectors located under the driver's seat but that hasn't solved it.

Could it be a broken circuit due to a blown fuse? Can I remove and replace the fuse without the airbag going off?

Also, is there a danger that the airbag might deploy at any time whilst I'm driving?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

RoCas

Thanks for the suggestion, Mr_a, I've posted there as you advise but it doesn't seem a particularly busy forum.

Does anyone else have any advice?

    Thanks again.

We have a mondeo and had this same problem over the last xmas hols - the culprit was a can of de-icer had got jammed under the passenger seat (where the contacts were) once the tin was removed, the light went out.

We had a lovely mechanic who gave us this advice, he was also an MOT tester and said not to worry -that for MOT purposes, the airbag light was not included in the test.

Having said all that - it is disconcerting when the light is shining at you all the time - I was very relieved when our problem was fixed - I could see pounds floating away towards the garage to get the problem fixed!!

Hope you get it sorted soon - post an update and let us know what happens.

    Good luck.

    ;)

Thanks for your encouragement, sassybird - glad you got it sorted. I cleared a mass of rubbish from under the driver's seat today but didn't think of looking under the passenger seat (doh!) - I'll check that tomorrow. We only have one airbag so I don't think the passenger seat is relevant but you never know ... or at least I never know 'cos I'm a dimwit where cars are concerned

I cleaned the wiring contacts under the driver's set with WD40 and that didn't help.

    Anyone else?

    Thanks again.

I have a similar problem with my SEAT. A friend of mine runs his own diagnostic service & has been promising to fix it for the last 18 months. It is apparently a problem with the 'squib', don't ask, no idea. I an told that the air bag would still be deployed as there is a sufficient amount of energy getting thru to the air bag, but not the correct amount, which is why the air bag light comes on.

Find a good local diagnostic company that can run the tests & isn't to too busy to actually do the job.
