Some WMP12 issues

Ok, I got a new Hard drive and move all my media over to that and removed my old secondary hdd, I then went into wmp setting deleted my old library and indexed the new one...

Result, 2 of every track and only one track works.

Solution: I have no idea, I can't reset wmp12 because its always running a process in the background, so I cant delete the cache, windows don't offer any means to access the setting to the folder. I've considered installing linux on another hdd and coming in to kill off the file but I can't believe I should need to do that.

I even tried deleting my whole library, but it then wouldn't index the new library again...

So (and this is another issue I have that worked kind of well here I guess) I reset the computer (properly from the windows interface) and windows 7 forgot all the changes I made and listed both libraries (and all the playlists I deleted and wanted gone) like I hadn't done a thing.

I've given up on the soft tactics, does anybody know how I can

a) reset wmp
b) turn the process off long enough for me to delete it's cache

it may be a case of both your music on your hard drive now and the music on your secondary drive is added to the windows 7 library.

select all your music and delete, select 'delete from library only'
then click 'organize' in top left and select 'manage libraries > music' and remove all links to folders, this will remove them from windows 7 library too.
    close media player
reopen media player and then re add your music folders to the manage library music section.
you may have to close media player and then re open it again.
this should add only what music you have selected in the folders from your hard drive.

  • Awesome tips from both of you.

I managed to fix it doing something similar to what you suggested jayme1. I redeleted the library and it actually removed the songs, then I could delete what was left and put the library back. The trick to it apparently was closing the program between steps.

That stuff about services is very interesting though. Def going to read up about that. Would have been so much quicker if I could have just deleted its cache.

    Anyway, thanks again guys.
