This sentence is a contradiction. Either they have a valid mortgage offer or they don't. If they don't then why did their solicitor allow them to exchange? Sounds like their solicitor screwed up and is now trying to use excuses to persuade you to agree a delay.

If it is the solicitor that screwed up then he should put it right without bothering his client during a stressful time. Or maybe the client (understandably) doesn't want to move house during a period or mourning and they are using this mortgage offer thing as a reason to delay.

Have to agree with silvercar, I think that someone somewhere is not telling the truth. Maybe the Solicitor at bottom of chain didn't read mortgage offer properly. Contracts should NEVER have been exchanged and it seems that the Solicitor is now trying to wiggle his way out of completing. Whatever you decide to do.....make sure that you are not out of pocket!!
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)

Just spoken to my sol who spoke to my buyers sol this morning. They have indicated that everything is still on for Thursday and for everyone to continue with removals etc.

My sol said not to count on anything until he sees the money but the buyers sol was optimistic. I have no idea how the problem has been sorted all of a sudden. However I feel there must be some resolution otherwise the bottom would not have everyone drawing down their new mortgages and stacking up removals vans in less than 48 hours unless they were 99% sure it would go ahead. I mean it is one thing trying to move a completion date after exchange a few days before and another on the actual day when interest is mounting up.

So fingers crossed things are for the up and all goes ahead as planned. Please all wish the best for me and I will do the same for you!!!
