Switching online deals with cancellation fees?

I switched to EDF last year to get Online Saver 5, which guaranteed to be cheaper than its standard rate until 30th Sept this year. I noticed that they have put the price of gas up without telling me since this date. So I am now going to switch to NPower Sign Online 19.

This NPower deal is the same, where they guarantee it to be cheaper than its standard rate until 30th Sept 2011, but there is a cancellation fee if you leave before this time.

The problem is that it takes 6 weeks to switch and it is getting colder now, so I will be paying the high prices during this time. The question is, how do I switch supplier without paying the cancellation fee but avoid being on the old deal for so long after they put the prices up when it ends?

Thanks!

  • Cos takes about 5-6 weeks in total so if your deal ends 1st nov, contact potential new supplier 1st week of October and you will only have may be 7-10 days on old suppoliers standard rate, before switching to new chosen supplier. (dates used are just an eg!)

The new Supplier will give you a set registration date. The supply change itself then takes 4-6 weeks as a guideline, but thats for all the admin side in the industry and does not impact your registration date. So, it will matter what date the new Supplier uses.

  • you should've just switched to edf online saver 7, that's probably cheaper or if not then very comparable to npower's online tariff
