I'm going to change the filter and would welcome any advice on 'how to',tips ect.., read I may have grief staring her up again. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Look around the filter area and see if theres a ball you can press attached to one of the lines to the filter. Failing that, i normally fill the replacement filter with diesel before fitting.
If theres a ball there, i'd fill the filter AND press the priming ball (if thats what the technical name for it is lol)

I don't think the vaux stuff has hand primer bulb well they never used to anyway,the common rail stuff is a lot easier to start after changing filter due to electric pump in tank.
Just turn ignition on and off a few times to prime it before cranking over to get running again.
It will help to pre fill the filter bowl but not essential.

You may have fun getting the lid off the filter housing - I do every time with the wife's '06 Astra CDTI it is made of quite tough plastic so don't be afraid to give it some. I have had to use a drift and a hammer on it to get it to unscrew in the past!
Starting afterwards shouldn't be a problem. It can take a few seconds cranking and may well chug for a few seconds but don't panic. After that it's all gravy.
