Moving kitchen sink waste pipe going through wall - tips?

I want to move where our kitchen sink waste pipe goes through the wall and out to drain. Currently runs along back wall under counter, behind washing machine, then out through wall outside. Then there's a 90°bend, then angles down to outside drain.

I want to move it so that it comes out further along, above the outside drain. So the 90° bend is on the inside of the external wall, with the pipe running along the external wall a bit, before another 90° takes it out through the wall.

So tips on drilling a hold for a pipe through the wall please. Tips on joining up all the pipes first time so they don't leak!

buy or borrow an SDS drill. any other drill will take you yrs.
when fitting the pipe, clean all the cut ends (with sandpaper or file) neatly. they should slide into each connection very easy.
    so no leaks.
    Get some gorm.

You need a diamond core drill wth appropriately sized bit for the pipework. Do not use ANY sort of drill that does not have a clutch - thats what stops the drill rotating round the bit and whacking you round the face, arm, whatever when the bit snags :D - and only use percussion for the pilot hole.

    Use solvent weld pipe.

Cool, loads of good advice there. Yep, its just one off, so to keep things cheap, I'll see how I get on with my current long masonry bit. Got a decent Makita drill, which will help. Also, the hole will be boxed in both sides eventually, so if I make a right hash of it and have to patch it with loads of poyfiller, at least it'll all be out of sight!

I can see why the two 45° plan would be better, however space won't allow. :(

If you are going to use solvent weld pipe I find that it is best to assemble it dry and then mark the pipe and the fitting with a pencil. Then when you glue and assemble it you just rotate the pipe or fitting until the pencil marks line up. That way you know the position is correct. As has been said you don't get a second chance to get the position right.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • If its just standard brickwork, then a tungsten core bit will be adequate.

Bit of an update: Drilled the hole over weekend, what a PITA! Went through 3 drills bit and gave my makita a bit of a hammering. Drilled guide hole, then tried to drill several hold around it. Our wall seems to have breeze blocks on each side (dark grey ish), with concrete in the middle, mixed with chippings. This concrete in the middle was a b1tch to get through. Drilling the hole around the guide, would always break into the centre, before hitting concrete, making it difficult to get traction on the concrete. Ended up hammering most of the centre out with a stone chisel. Took me about 4-5 hours in total, just to do the hole! Its to too messy, just a tiny bit bigger than need be at each end, nothing some filler won't hide though.

I'll be doing the pipes another day now. Good plan about pencilling marks to help line them up once glues on.

Yep, in hind sight, I think I should have just paid a plumber to sort it. Probably would only take 'um half a day... Doh! Live and learn.
