Can you apply/change tax credit claim in advance?

For example if you were going from a single to a joint claim, could you apply in advance (maybe a few weeks before moving in) to minimise the waiting time?

Comments

  • I don't think you can
  • No , you def cannot make changes in advance.

I rung tc office up to tell them that my daughters DLA was coming to an end . I had rung them 2 wekks before it ended to allow them time to make the change . I was told i had to ring back on the day the change actually took effect .

    Thank you both for answering

Oh well, I was really hoping you could...it makes more sense to me! I'm really worried about having to go for weeks without a payment while they process a new claim:(
  • Give them a call, some advisors will send you a form early to minimise the waiting time, PLEASE do not return the pack before you've ended the single claim
