depends if you want to add to it as you go along?
perhaps a bond, have you got an isa? could get an isa bond? best bet might be some reasearch as to what interest rates are about on diferent accounts and compare to what you like.

I'd stick it in the highest-paid account from this page:

You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

I would suggest the highest paying ISA so you can add to it.

I would only do a bond if I had £5000 or more.

  • Highest savings account at the moment will only get you around £30/year (gross) on £1000. But you can do better than that by just getting a halifax reward current account and moving it in and out once a month, giving £60/year (net). If you have a partner, I think you can have one of these each plus a joint one, giving you £180/year. Can keep it in an instant-access account for the rest of the time, which can get you around 2.8% (gross) on top.

You could lock all but £500 away, and just move the £500 into each account twice a month. Eg with the above messing about, halifax will give you 3% on an ISA. Note that you can't keep it all in an ISA and move it about from there - the ISA rules don't allow that.
