2nd Hand Textbooks (part II)!

No I'm not interested in where to buy, but rather where to sell!

Are there any good places that I can exchange my old textbooks for cash? Just after the easiest way to get rid of them.

FYI I don't do eBay (tried it once and delivery messed up, ended up costing me the cost of the item plus bad comments on my then flawless rep plus awful comms from paypal themselves, i hate them for life now) so that is definately not an option!

Thanks in advance.

  • Usually the best people to sell books to are the people taking your course. They are the most likely people to need the books you have, and you can sometimes sell some old notes you've taken during your course as well for extra £.

I know you don't like eBay. Have you tried selling on Amazon Marketplace?

Is it by far the best site for selling second-hand books. It is much easier and quicker to list than eBay and all payments are made and processed by Amazon so no messing around with Paypal either!

The other advantage is that there are no listing fees to pay. If the item doesn't sell, then you don't pay a penny. :)

Have a read of the first two posts on THIS THREAD for advice and answers to the most common questions. :)

If they are from a Uni course, have you tried the Uni bookshop. My old University gave us money for all of our old textbooks if we sold them back to them. From what I can remember it was a pretty reasonable rate.

I sold an old text book today on Amazon - bearing in mind I graduated about 7 years ago....I got nearly the same price as I paid for it then....

If you list them now, lots of students will have their money, their reading lists, have settled into student life and be ready to buy them!!!

Amazon is evil - by the time you've paid postage (you're only allowed to charge £2.75 although most textbooks cost easily double that due to their size) and your commission to amazon it's not worth it.

lellie - price your books accordingly.

They tell you how much you will receive so ensure the price you set covers the postage and their fee.

    Good luck

I agree, Amazon is great and I've sold lots of books and cds on there but the key is to look at the final amount you will receive after Amazon have taken their bit, and then deduct your own postage costs.

Read the where to buy thread...

Usually correlates quite well with where to sell ;)

    Basically:
Amazon (although you can get very screwed over postage - thus I prefer ebay, which got me a better price in three book trials I did).
    E-bay
Second hand departments of big bookshops
University bookshops will often sell on second hand books
Advertise on notice boards in your department

I NEVER buy off amazon marketplace interestingly, as market place is always uber inflated (to cover peeps P&P), and I've always been able to get the same thing cheaper on ebay, but I guess this will be very subject dependent...

Just placed my book up on amazon, suprisingly straightforward!

I can't remember who PM'd me regarding which books I had for sale, they are mostly economics books for degree level, PM me again if you are still interested and I will to get back to you!

Amazon is by the far the easiest to list on! Can list loads in minutes!!

    Good luck selling them
