Can I display a 31/10/2011 tax disc now?

I've bought a new tax disc online and the one I have on display expires 31/10/2010 when we are out of the UK. Can I display the 2012 one now? I thought there would be something inside the letter with it but there isn't. Just the tax disc. The purchase stamped date of 12/10/10 is on it in the middle.

If you are going to be out of the country and presumably your car is park on the street then why not display both discs on the windscreen.....
Surely that cannot be illegal.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Sorry, yes it can be displayed alongside the expiring one. I assumed you meant the new one alone. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

i was in the process of saying just display them both at the same time but i got cross posted.
So what the others said :-)0 -
OK, great thanks. Our car is going to be at a hotel but if it was to be moved then it would be on the road so I would prefer to be on the safe side.
I've always displayed them a few days before but not so early and we are away from next Saturday so it would be a week early. I'll find another tax disc holder and put both in until we get back.
Thank you all.0 -

why do you always display them a few days before? wouldnt it make more sense to keep the valid disc on display until the month end0 -

I'd suggest it is unlikely anyone would care to be fair. Just the sort of story I can see under a 'mad police' article in the Daily Mail.0 -

you dont think anyone would care? neither do i tbh, it just seems strange why you would remove a valid tax disc a few days before the one you are replacing it with was valid0 -

I just stick my new one ontop my old one as soon as I get it. Saves forgetting it.0 -
I change mine as soon as I get it, rather than waiting till the old one expires.0
