Dell laptop pointer moves when typing

Hi,
I have a 6 month old dell inspiron 1300 laptop.
The problem is that when typing the cursor moves ( anywhere at random) and if I dont realise I end up with the text all mixed up. Its really annoying .
There seems to be no pattern to this, might do it every few minutes and then be ok for days. Does it on word and even when typing on this forum .
Please help

Mine is more of a jump ( bottom to top) rather than a creep but could be same problem .

Hi,
No its not that. I thought that could be the cause at first but sure its not . It happens to the Mrs too and shes a proper typist ( when shes realised its done it shes typed half a page and screams).
