Hi there, i think when you a feel a bit better in a few days, you should speak to the salon owner about this girls behaviour. I have dark skin and hair and am very conscious of being hairy too, please do not let this cruel girl upset you anymore. I am training to become a beauty therapist and would never speak to anyone like that

Have you tried an epilator ? The best way I can describe it is like several tweezers working together to whip out the hairs individually. It takes a few weeks for the hairs to re-grow and eventually the growth gets weaker.

Mine is battery operated but you can get "plug ins" too. They're not really painful, just like tweezering really.

If it doesn't bother you and you are happy with your appearance, then don't feel you have to do something just because that woman upset you - I would complain about her.

The epilator idea is a good one, I do this too:) It hurt at first but is very effective:)

You dont mention using any creams?

Oh and Fridaygirl, my GP dismissed my worries when I had this many centuries ago. I ended up being carried by my new husband into A and E one night in agony - THEN they discovered the problem was PCOs. So dont take the word of one doctor - male doctors particularly seem to think being hairy is ok/women fussing - they have no idea how it effects women.

Poor you, some people are SO insensitive as some of the previous posters have said if it wasn't a problem before then don't let one thoughtless insensitive ******* make it an issue for you.
I know nothing about hair removal but what does electrolysis do?
  • ive got really dark facial hair and think its really noticeable, however nobody has said anything to me about it apart from oh but thats a different story ;) most of the time i do wax it, but sometimes i shave it and as long as i give it a once over every day when shaving there is no issue.

dont let some stupid woman get you down and i would make a complaint to the owner and make it clear that you will not be going back unless your usual girl does your treatments, cause word of mouth over an insensitive therapist will do more damage to her business than she thinks.

God just typing it brings tears to my eyes. I have been using this salon for about 3 years but I just threw the money down, told her she had insulted me, that I was never coming back and ran out the door. The owner looked a bit startled and has tried calling me but I cannot speak to her- I am too upset.

When you feel calmer and not tearful, I hope you will tell the salon owner what this Woman said to you and how upset you were over it. Don't be too proud to tell her that you were crying hours later. She needs to know.

Sorry you were so upset, I've had a similar experience and it's utterly mortifying.

My daughter is slim and has regular periods but still has PCOS and excess hair. She had hers diagnosed via an abdominal scan - the sort you have when you are pregnant. She has cream for her facialhair problem - called Vaniqua I believe - and has been put on the Pill, a version that is supposed to help with that sort of thing. Both of these came via a sympathetic GP.

This all worked to begin with but she is unhappy again now as the effects seem to be wearing off. I have to say that I dont find it as noticeable as she does and she is a very attractive girl. She does spend a huge amount of time shaving/bleaching/removing hair with cream.

I'm sorry you have been so upset by your experience at the salon - what an insensitive biatch. My daughter would have been devasted to have had her problem pointed out in such a way. :(

Like yourself - thick dark hair - and a noticeable tache

I use a combination of things to keep on top of mine

One tip I read on here was to trim with scissors. And yes it works well. I use small very sharp fine ones and use them as close to the skin as possible. It really does work well where there is lot of finer hairs.

The thick ones I have to tweezer out

I do now and then use a cream but still I need to tweezer out the real thick tough hairs because leaving the cream on too long burns.

A good 10x magnification mirror and a good pair of tweezers are my essentials
