Received a shiny new monitor this week free from Eon and getting a shock at how everything adds up. Shower and kettle very high and tumble drier on high hits the roof. I though my top oven was cheaper than the big fan oven, not so but have fished my JML out of cupboard and will use slow cooker more. Dishwasher ok thank goodness and leaving PC on all day is over. its just made us aware of how much we are wasting and now like the Queen we go around switching lights off and everything we are not using.

Oh do tell, please, I am so careful with all other electric appliances but when I am home I am glued to the PC at all hours, what is the damage/hour for PC use? *Bracing myself for the bad news....*Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

I found it wasn't things like the cooker, tumble dryer etc that shocked me because I expected them to be high, it was all the little things that add up! My OH is a swine for leaving things switched on, he'll have the tv on in one room and the radio in another, he also leaves things on standby instead of switching them off and he likes to have a fan running all night when he's in bed. I seem to spend my time running round after him switching everything off!
We're on a prepayment meter so it's easy to monitor our usage and when OH was in hospital we were using £5 a week LESS electric. That's £260 a year! :eek:Dum Spiro Spero0 -

PC's vary lots. A laptop is only about 40w but a bells and whistles PC is about 450w to a games monster that can pull 1kw at full pelt. I've just turned my PC on and it consumes 67-90w without the monitor. The monitor will have a wattage printed on it but my PC is connected to TV for movies.
Check your local council as they may loan them out from library like a book.0 -

Check you washing machine. Mine uses 15w when just turned on at the wall without any lights on it. Lucky I have a isolation switch so can turn it off.
I get my house down to 27w when leaving.0 -
I have one of these and it's been great for seeing where we're wasting electricity :j
