laptop struggling to connect

I have installed a new wireless router (belkin). My pc is hard wired so I have no issues with connectivity, however my friends laptop is having some problems.
The laptop can connect but only if I unplug the wireless router and turn it back on again. Now if we don't do this the laptop can see the network and it has five signal bars but it just wont connect, turn it off and on again and it connects straight away.
Once the connection is made there are no issues and it stays connected. If the laptop is turned off we have to repeat the whole process again. Any suggestions?

Download and install InSSIDer on the laptop and do a scan. I bet there's more than one wireless network in the area on the same channel. If there is, log into your router and change the channel the wifi is on.0
