My mum lives at home alone and mainly uses just 1 room. Do you think she's better putting on the gas central heating with just that room's radiator on or turning on the electric fire? What's more cost effective??!!

buy a really thick duvet and put the electric fire onReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
Hi dandycandy,
The experts on the gas and electricity board should be able to help with this so I've moved your thread across.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. It depends on the Kilowatt output of the electric fire. I would always be sceptical on electric portable heating as costs can spiral.
Also, can you shut all the doors and keep the heat in. Best way is to run a test for a few days. Read the meters before and after you have tried each one and work out how much it is costing you. You will need to have the previous bills to see how much she is paying per unit for gas and electric.0 -
The problem with shutting off radiators on a gas C/H system is the location of the thermostat - if its in one of the unheated areas then the system will continue to fire even if the room with the active radiator is warm enough.0
