Problems Mapping Thecus NAS Windows XP

Hi,
I have a Thecus N2100 NAS drive that I am trying to map onto my work Windows XP Pro laptop (Dell Latitude 13) for backups (just replaced a Toshiba Tecra, which worked fine).
I have a hard wired network, with a BT HomeHub V2.0 dishing out IP's.
The Thecus is on a fixed IP address (192.168.1.100), and the laptop is on the same subnet (192.168.1.66).
The Win XP machine can access the web interface no problem, and I can ping the Thecus IP address with success. I have an iMac which has the Thecus drive mapped, along with a Virtualbox (iMac host) install of Windows 7 that also has a mapped drive to the Thecus.
When I try to map the drive on the laptop, it obviously sees the Thecus as it asks for a user name and password, but keeps requesting the credentials as if they are incorrect.
The only thing I can think of which may be causing the problem, is that the Thecus is set with my home workgroup (FLAT11A) and the laptop is set to be on the domain "global". All other network facilities work, though, like a HP laserjet with a network card and a new HP officejet 6500 (ethernet, not wireless).
I have also added a new user to the Thecus, but when I try to map using this the username / password dialogue in Windows repeatedly asks for the password as if the password is wrong (I know its not..).
Is there any way in Windows to map a drive without a username and password? My Mac can connect directly with the Thecus as a guest if I click on the link in the sidebar.
Has anyone got any ideas on how I could solve this, or is the workgroup/domain issue the show stopper?
Thanks in advance
Mark
