Question - too young to buy shares ?

My 13 year old son received some money for his Birthday and would like to invest it in shares. I think he may be too young to be allowed to buy shares in a company and so I wondered whether there is a way round this and if so, what would be the best way to purchase some shares for him ?
Thank you

You have to be 18 to own shares completely in your own name.
I am not sure whether you can own shares "in trust" of him.
However, if you want, you could open up a trading account in your name, and buy the shares, obviously in your name, but he tells you what to buy.
As he isn't likely to have a lot of money it maybe worth just going for the cheapest option - http://www.x-o.co.uk/
Costs £6 to buy, £6 to sell. UK companies only.0
